What we collect

Coarse location, and only to show you what is nearby. To stream aircraft and ships, the app asks our server for the one-degree map cells you are looking at, each about 111 km across. When you open the app the map is centred on you, so those first cells contain where you are. Pan elsewhere and the cells follow the map, not you.

The app keeps a random connection key so it can reconnect to our server. It is not tied to a name, email, device identifier or anything else about you.

We collect nothing else: no contacts, no photos, no usage analytics, no crash reports, no advertising identifier.

What stays on your phone

Your precise location centres the map and positions the sky view, and is never sent anywhere. When you look up at the sky, the camera image is shown behind the aircraft and is never recorded or sent. Map tiles, imagery and scenery you have already seen are cached on the phone.

Services the map talks to

Drawing the globe means fetching maps and imagery from the services that publish them. Each request tells that service which area is on screen and, like any web request, your IP address. Nothing else about you is sent.

• Map tiles from OpenFreeMap, built from OpenStreetMap.
• Satellite imagery from EOX, USGS and NASA; terrain from Mapterhorn; buildings from Overture Maps.
• 3D scenery from Google Maps Platform, through our own service, when the Scenery option is on. Google's privacy policy applies to those requests.
• Aurora forecasts directly from NOAA.

Some requests go through our own service instead, which holds the keys the app must not carry: aircraft details and photos when you open a plane, place search, cloud frames, satellite positions, and transit vehicles. Place search sends what you type and the map centre rounded to about 55 km; our service counts searches but does not log what was searched for.

Tracking

Here Above does not track you across apps or websites, and shares nothing with advertisers or data brokers.

Children

Here Above collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
